German Colonial Post

Prior to WWI Germany had imperial ambitions in the Western Pacific region with colonies in New Guinea (Kaiser Wilhelmland), Samoa, Palau, Nauru and many other small island groups.  These stamps were used for inter-island post and was limited to use by German Nationals.  These were mostly civil administrators, missionaries and scientists.

The 50 pfg rate was said to be for surface mail and the 75 pfg for airmail, though this would have been a very early example of such a service.

There may be similar issues for use in Germany’s African territories.
